Abstract:Abstract : To enhance lightning warning capabilities for hail weather in Jiangxi , this study analyzed the characteristics of eight supercells from four hail events in Jiangxi in 2024 , based on radar echo products and lightning data from the " Tianyan " system , using radar meteorology methods . The results show that : 1) Supercells appeared on radar mosaics either as squall-line echo bands or isolated types , with composite reflectivity ( CR) exceeding 60 dBz . Most exhibited strong echo cores of 65-70 dBz , and lightning distribution corresponded closely to these echoes with high density. 2) In vertical cross-sections , the 60 dBz echoes extended from 3 to 12 km , with a thickness up to 9 km. The towering strong echo region represented the hail accumulation zone . 3 ) Temporal evolution of vertical profiles indicated that the descending base height of 60 dBz echoes signaled hail occurrence . 4) The lightning frequency of supercells exceeded 1 000 flashes per hour , with dense lightning areas exhibiting an elongated elliptical shape whose major axis indicated the direction of supercell motion . 5 ) The peak lightning activity did not completely coincide with the peak CR values; for isolated supercells , lightning peaks lagged noticeably behind CR peaks . This study provides a scientific basis for echo identification and lightning monitoring and warning of supercell storms in Jiangxi .
