Abstract:Abstract : To explore the wind energy potential of Guizhou Province and understand the impact of climate change on wind resources , by using the daily wind speed observation data from 80 national meteorological stations across Guizhou Province from 1971 to 2023 and the methods of trend analysis , Mann-Kendall (M-K) mutation test and wavelet analysis , this paper investigates the spatio-temporal characteristics of wind speed . The results show that the average wind speed in Guizhou is highest in March and lowest in October , exhibiting a fluctuating pattern . Both annual and seasonal average wind speeds show a decreasing trend , with a rate of decline lower than the national average . Significant abrupt changes are seen in the annual and seasonal average wind speeds , accompanied by two to three distinct periodic variations across all time scales . Spatially , the annual and seasonal average wind speeds generally decrease from west to east. Apart from an increasing trend observed along the eastern edge of the province , all the other areas have a decreasing trend . A significant positive correlation is found between wind speed and elevation at both annual and seasonal scales . The annual and seasonal average wind speed changes are significantly positively correlated . It is found that the areas such Guiyang in central part of Guizhou Province , Bijie in the west , Qianxinan , Liupanshui , Anshun , and the northern part of Qiannan , are rich in wind energy resources and suitable for the development of related industries . At the same time , adverse effects of local altitude and climate change on wind resources need to be considered .
