Abstract:The monthly NCEP reanalysis data from 1980 to 2016, the daily climatic element data from August to September of 84 national observation stations in Guizhou Province (the 30-year average from 1981 to 2010) and the daily temperature and precipitation data from August to September of 2002 in Guizhou Province are used to analyze the exceptionally heavy autumn wind process in Guizhou Province in 2002.The results show that from August 9 to August 23, the duration of autumn wind in central and western Guizhou is more than 9 days, most areas are more than 12 days, and Weining station is more than 15 days, which is a heavy autumn wind process. Since the spring, the warmer SSTA in Nino3.4 area maintain until August, which results a meridional circulation type in middle and high latitudes of Eurasia,The northern cold air is strong and southward; The southerly wind of cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal and the South China Sea and the southward cold air converged in Guizhou province and formed a stationary front, which lasted for a long time. The four typhoons during August 9 to 23 were favorable for water vapor transportation and circulation maintenance, which resulted in low temperature and more rain in August 2002 and severe autumn wind disaster, especially caused the longest autumn wind process during August 9 to 23.
